Could you tell us a little about you and your band?

僕は21世紀の音楽家です。と言うのも、ジャズの伝統を尊重しながらも音楽の進化を考えているからです。自身の演奏テクニックや新しい技術を上手く融合することでそれを表しています。伝統を守るスタイルには敬意を払いますが、50・60年代で時が止まっている人達とは僕は違います。バンドメンバーの全員僕と同じ考えです。意思統一は大事ですからね。
I'm a 21st century musician. That means I respect the tradition of jazz however I look at new ways to progress the music. This takes expression in the techniques I use in my instrument as well as the use of smart technology. For some the clock has stop in the 1950s or 60s and I'm not from that school, although I respect that. All my band members agree with me, of course, it's important to be single minded.

音楽活動のきっかけ／自国の音楽シーンについて
How did you get started musically? and could you also tell us about the music scene in your country?

ジャズは世界共通言語、国境の無い言葉です。叙情詩的で、深く奥行きのあるグルーヴの効いたジャズをやっています。僕の音楽は時軸が全てです。
Jazz is a universal language. It has a certain vocabulary which is without borders...The type of Jazz I play is lyrical and has a deep pocket groove. In my music time is everything.

影響を受けたアーティストや物事は？
Any musicians (or things) that you have been influenced / inspired by?

音楽家、映画、世界事情、自分の周りで起きている事など様々です。伝統や昔の音楽家たちへの尊敬は非常に重要だと思います。ただ僕の音楽を一番左右するのは僕自身のムードだと思います。良いムードの時はハッピーに奏でているだろうし、悪いムードの時はみんなが聴きたくないような曲を作るからね(笑)
I'm influenced by musicians, by films, by world events, by circumstances in my own life...I honor and respect the musician of the past, the tradition is important. My moods are mostly what influence the way my music goes...If I'm in a good mood I sound happy, if I'm in a dark mood I tend to write songs that you don't want to hear :)

初来日への想いは？
This is your very first appearance in Japan. Any thoughts about the country?

実は20年前に日本で僕の初アルバム『ACID LOVE』がリリースされてはいるんだけど、来日は初めてとなります。僕を除いて家族全員、来日経験があるのにね。日本の皆さんは音楽が好きだと思うので、共通点はたくさんあると思います。コットンクラブで演奏出来る事をとても名誉に感じています。
It is indeed, although 20 years ago my first album was released in Japan. It was called Acid Love. It did quite well at the time...I know Japanese people love music, so we have a lot in common. It is my first time visiting Japan. All my family has visited Japan except me, I feel privileged to play at the Cotton Club.

今回の来日公演の内容について
Could you tell us a little about your upcoming shows?

アルバム『LONG WAY』からの楽曲を披露予定です。ワンダフルで魅惑的な時間になると思います。
We will be playing the material of the LONG WAY album. You can expect some wonderful and magical moments.

日本滞在中にしたいことはありますか？
What would you like to do with your free time whilst in Japan?

日本のミュージシャンに会ったり、出来る限り多くの人と交流したいです。
I hope to meet some Japanese musicians and hopefully connect with as many people as possible.

最近興味があることは何ですか？
Is there anything that you are currently into or interested in (not necessarily music-related) ?

ベトナムに生息しているツキノワグマの保護に関心があります。ツキノワグマに起こっている悲劇的な現状を救おうと努力している人たちはいますが、彼らもまた助けを必要としています。人類が侵している不正行為を正す努力は、どんなに小さなことであっても世界を救う事に貢献すると思います。それが僕たちの存在意義でもあるからね。
Yes, at the moment there's a cause that has retained my attention and it is the rescue of moon-bears in Vietnam. The story of these animals is tragic and there are some people doing an incredible job trying to rescue those bears and they need support. I believe that every effort to help to redress the injustice caused by mankind repairs the world. That's why we're here for.

今後の活動について
Any future projects?

次の作品のために曲を書いているところです。来年1月にレコーディング予定で、2013年の末にはリリースしたいですね。
I am in the middle of composing the next recording...We shall do that next January with a release possibly end of 2013

音楽を通してお客様に伝えたいことは？
What do you wish to most convey to your audience through your music?

愛と情熱。音を通じて幸せを感じてもらえたり、人生を楽しみ、この世界をもっと良くしようという気持を抱いてもらえたら嬉しいです。
My love and passion. I want my audiences to be happy and celebrate life and their desire for making this world a better place.
