ＡＯＲの2大カリスマが夢の共演

ブルックリン生まれ。71年ウッドストックに移り、トッド・ラングレンやザ・バンド等と交流を深める。その後LAに行き、80年に発表したシングル「Ｓｔｅａｌ　Ａｗａｙ（ふたりだけの夜）」（全米最高6位）、アルバム『ロビー･デュプリー』が大ヒット。グラミー賞の最優秀新人アーティストにノミネートされた。89年から再びウッドストックを拠点に、ソロ･アルバムの発表を精力的に行いながら、プロデューサーとしても活躍している。この公演にはスペシャル･ゲストとして「This Night Won''t Last Forever（涙は今夜だけ）」で知られるビル･ラバウンティが参加。デュプリーはラバウンティの91年作品『恋のゆくえ』（国内盤ドリームズヴィル）で共同プロデュースを務めたが、２人の共演ライヴは非常に珍しい。最新作は『ロビー・デュプリーLive!』（国内盤ユニバーサルミュージック）。

Message from Robbie
In the meanwhile here is my message to the fans.We call this show Reunion In Tokyo...The show will be awesome. Larry Hoppen will sing his Orleans hit song Dance with Me, Leslie Smith will have a featured vocal in the show. Bill and I will perform our most memorable songs , many of which are songs we wrote and recorded together. This is an exciting band with fantastic musicians and singers. We are thrilled to bring this very special show to　our fans in Tokyo. It is our first performance at The Cotton Club and we are looking forward to it.

このショーを"東京での再会"と呼んでるんだ。ショーはすばらしいものになるはずだよ。Larry Hoppenは彼のOrleansのヒット曲、"dance with me"を僕と一緒に歌い、Leslie Smithはヴォーカルとしてショーの顔になるはずだから。Billと僕はみんなが覚えてる一緒に作った曲を演るよ。このバンドはすばらしいミュージシャンとシンガーだから、この特別なショーを東京のファンの前で出来ることにわくわくしてるよ。ぼくらの初めてのコットンクラブでの演奏になるけど楽しみにしてるよ。

Message from Bill
I am anticipating my return to Japan with great excitement and pleasure.

今回の日本への再来日は、すごくエキサイトで喜びに満ちたものになると予期しているよ。

To those who have enjoyed the music I make over the years I would like to say thank you. I am inspired to know you are listening. I will enjoy singing and playing from the heart.

僕が作った音楽で長年楽しんでくれたみんなに”サンキュー”と言いたいよ。
みんなが、今でも僕の音楽聞いてくれていることに感動したし、
これからも心から楽しく歌って演奏できるよ。

I last visited and performed in Japan in 1991. I brought my band and played in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka at clubs such as Club Citta and the Bottom Line. My memories of that trip are great. I still think of Japan often. The audiences, crews, guides, club-owners, and record company people I met and worked with have left me with an impression that makes me happy to this day.

最後に日本を訪れ演奏したのが1991年で、その時はバンドと一緒に東京、名古屋、大阪の”クラブ チッタ”や”ボトムライン”のようなクラブをまわったよ。その時の思い出は、すばらしくて、今でも日本の事をよく考えたりするんだ。観客、スタッフ、ガイド、クラブオーナー、レコード会社など、出会い、一緒に働いた人々は今思い出してもHAPPYになれるような印象を私に残してくれたよ。

My upcoming performance at the Cotton Club came about through a concert Robbie and I gave at a club in Nashville. We talked about how much fun it was to perform together. We discussed ways of continuing to make music together. Robbie then arranged more dates to play. And, through his friends in Japan, a trip with a bigger band at the Cotton Club.

コットンクラブでの演奏は、ナッシュヴィルで私とロビーが一緒にやったコンサートがきっかけなんだ。一緒に演奏をやったことがどれだけ楽しかったかを話し、一緒に音楽を作り続けていく為の方法を出しあったよ。そして、ロビーは追加の日程を調整し、また、コットンクラブでより大きなバンドのツアーを実現させたんだ。

Robbie and I have always remained comrades and creative partners. We have worked together often. Sharing writing credits on each other''s albums. We have also been on stage together periodically over the many years of our friendship. We have never performed together in Japan, however, and it will be a wonderful occasion for both of us.

ロビーと私は常に同志であり、創造的な仲間であり続けた。よく一緒に仕事をしてきたし、お互いのアルバムの中でも曲を提供し合っているんだ。また、長年の友人関係のあいだ、ことあるごとに一緒にステージにたっている。日本では一緒に演奏したことはないけれど、それは私たちにとってすばらしい出来事になるだろうね。

I look forward to meeting you and making new friends at the Cotton Club.
